Ostrich Leg finished by Luxotica in Spain.

The classic glazed finish brings out the natural beauty and exotic look of this leather, highlighting the large center scale.  While the Ostrich is farmed, each leg is unique.  Therefore size and length varies, the size of the center scale varies as well.

The pieces are generally 14-18 inches in length, and 4.5-5.0 inches wide at the narrowest point.  The thickness is approximately 0.6/0.8mm or 1.5/2.0 ounces. First time buyers should note with the slight variation in thickness, this produces a natural variation in tone as the pressure of the glazing depends on the thickness.

The feel and texture is similar to lizard, as well as the look.  One of the features and advantages of Ostrich Leg is it is the least expensive option to achieve a true exotic look, plus they are non-CITES.  The downside of ostrich leg is their size can limit the patterns you can cut.  Also, being a shin or leg, they may have some defects despite being top grade.  Buyers should know that unfortunately the majority of legs end up in the landfill being too poor quality to invest any time or processing.  Only a very small percentage qualify as grade 1/2 and even as such, skins may have blemishes.

Luxotica is well known for producing the best Ostrich Leg available for both quality and finish.  The legs offered here are no exception.  The legs are sold by the piece, and the pieces are all considered Grade 1/2.
